Rescue workers train in an emergency: dramatic accident drill in Bad Gandersheim

A dramatic scenario was simulated in Bad Gandersheim on Tuesday evening: a comprehensive traffic accident exercise in which the fire brigade, DRK rescue service and police trained in an emergency! At 6:45 p.m. a serious traffic accident was reported at the intersection of Flugplatzweg and Kriegerweg. Two cars had collided and the occupants were trapped in their vehicles and injured. A real shock for the emergency services!

The DRK rescue service in Bad Gandersheim was the first to arrive at the scene of the accident. The rescuers immediately began providing medical care to the injured. After an initial assessment of the situation, the fire department was alerted to free the trapped people. The police secured the danger zone, kept onlookers away and regulated traffic - real teamwork under pressure!

Technical rescue in action

The Bad Gandersheim fire department arrived with heavy equipment. The windshield of the vehicle, which was on its side, was removed to provide access to the patient. The rescue was quick and gentle! But the situation on the second vehicle was trickier: Here the emergency services had to remove the roof with rescue scissors and a spreader in order to free the trapped person. Rescue was achieved here too with impressive technology!

The “injured people”, portrayed by ASB accident actors, were then handed over to the rescue service for further care. Both patients received intensive follow-up treatment in the ambulance. This exercise was not only a test of the technology, but also a valuable opportunity for everyone involved to train their cooperation under realistic conditions. Gerd Glomm, rescue station manager of the DRK Bad Gandersheim, thanked all participants for their commitment and praised the excellent cooperation with the fire department and police. A big compliment also went to the realistic accident staging by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund from Sehlem, which contributed significantly to the learning effect!
