New location for the maypole: Community strengthens Rieden and Zellerberg
The community of Rieden near Kaufbeuren is facing significant changes: Mayor Inge Weiß reported that the local council has a new, sustainable solution for the maypole on the agenda. The two shooting clubs Rieden and Zellerberg have decided to revive the tradition of putting up the maypole after the previous foundations became unsafe. Due to planned property sales and a power line in the way, the locations had to be reconsidered. The volunteer group, known as the “Maibäumler”, is actively working to create a new foundation that will be built on the fire department’s premises, reports the Allgäu newspaper.
The new location is intended to ensure the tradition is maintained, with the two shooting clubs taking turns putting up the maypole. This is seen as a strong sign of the connection between Rieden and Zellerberg. The local council is also planning an inspection of the site to determine the details of the foundation. Another important decision was the rapid purchase of a new pump for the Zellerberg pumping station, which cost over seven thousand euros, and heralded another forward-looking measure.
Rieden and Zellerberg – a charming duo
The idyllic community of RiedenZellerberg consists of the districts of the same name and has around 1,300 residents. The region is characterized by a rich natural landscape that offers diverse habitats. Growing historically, Rieden used to belong to the Irsee Imperial Abbey and was first mentioned in a document as early as 1242. This long history complements the modern development of the community, which today represents an important center for leisure and sport, with a wide network of hiking and cycling paths as well as an active club life, such as Travel idea summarizes.
With the new maypole foundation and the investment in the pumping station, Rieden is taking a step into the future, while the rich history and harmonious nature of the region remain an integral part of its identity.
