Major fire at the Christmas market: Oberhausen evacuates visitors in panic!

An alarming incident shook the contemplative hustle and bustle at the Christmas market in Centro Oberhausen! This evening a major fire broke out in a former Chinese restaurant known as Pagoda. Firefighters were alerted around 5:20 p.m. when meter-high flames shot out of the roof of the empty building PICTURE reported. All visitors to the Christmas market were immediately evacuated to ensure their safety. This was well attended at the time of the evacuation, which made the circumstances even more dramatic.

The Oberhausen fire department deployed two fire engines with around 60 emergency services to fight the blazing inferno. Fighting the fire proved challenging, although the flames have now been largely brought under control WDR reported. Nevertheless, the fire brigade will be busy late into the night to extinguish repeated embers and prevent the fire from flaring up again. Fortunately, there have been no injuries reported so far.

Christmas market remains closed

The danger posed by the flames and the column of smoke caused were sufficient reason for the city of Oberhausen to completely evacuate the Christmas market. Due to the safety measures, the Christmas market will remain closed on Thursday evening, but is scheduled to reopen promptly at 11 a.m. on Friday, as announced by city spokespeople. Meanwhile, the adjacent Centro shopping center remains untouched and continues to open its doors to visitors.
