Dangerous Christmas season: How to protect yourself from fires!

The Advent season not only brings contemplative moments, but also risks. While people use candles and open flames in their homes, the fire department warns of the dangers that a dry Christmas tree or Advent wreath can pose. Section fire brigade commander Stefan Schaub emphasizes that in the run-up to and during the holidays, carelessness and a lack of awareness about the temperature development of candles often lead to fires. According to Schaub, temperatures of 600 to 800 degrees Celsius outside the flame can set curtains and tablecloths on fire. That's why the fire department gives preventive tips to avoid tragic accidents, such as meinkreis.at reports.

A light for the weakest

While the fire department warns of fire dangers, Caritas is sending a signal of hope and solidarity during the Christmas season. On December 14th, she will light lights at around 100 locations in Switzerland as part of the “One Million Stars” project. These candles are intended to remember the over one million people who struggle with the challenges of poverty in Switzerland. According to Caritas, single parents and families are particularly affected. The event is open to everyone and aims to draw attention to the often invisible suffering of the poor. “Poverty is often invisible in our society,” emphasizes Christine Gerstner from Caritas, while calling for participation and support. The lights stand for a fairer society and solidarity with those in need, like kath.ch reports.
