Fire devil inflamed fire in Hohenems: fire brigade in continuous use!
A severe vegetation fire currently keeps the emergency services in suspense, both in Austria and in Croatia. In Vorarlberg, a previously unknown person inflamed a fire at a banned barbecue area, which quickly spread after embers were blown up by strong foehn winds. According to vorarlberg.orf.at , concerned passers -by noticed the flames and alerted the fire brigade. Within a very short time, the fire had expanded to a length of about 100 meters into an adjacent forest area.
The Hohenems fire brigade used 147 emergency services from eight fire departments as well as mountain rescue services and other emergency workers to combat the inferno. The processes were difficult due to the difficult weather conditions because the wind spread the embers. With the help of a drone and numerous fire engines that transported water from a pond and a high tank, the emergency services managed to extinguish the fire after intensive control and water transport of around 60,000 liters. District fire brigade inspector Martin Kisser described the commitment as extremely challenging, especially because of the dryness and the strong wind. The final deletion of the fire was confirmed at around 1:00 a.m.

To combat the fire, around 450 firefighters were deployed, supported by five extinguishing aircraft. The extinguishing work stretched over 24 hours, with the teams alternating to control the flames and protect the endangered areas. Despite the previous successes, the situation remains critical, and the police have asked the residents to follow the instructions of the emergency services and to stay away from the fire site.
