On Thursday morning there was a dramatic fire in the St. Pölten prison, where thick, black clouds of smoke came from the administrative wing. For reasons that are still unclear, the fire broke out in an office, which put the emergency services of the St. Pölten-Stadt and St. Pölten-Wagram fire departments on alert. Using heavy breathing apparatus, the Florianis were able to bring the fire under control and extinguish it within an hour. Fortunately, according to initial information, there were no injuries crown as well as Today reported.

The affected rooms in the administrative wing were completely destroyed. Operations manager and state fire brigade chief Didi Fahrafellner announced that the cause of the fire must now be determined by the police. At the time of the fire there was a lot of hectic activity in the city center of St. Pölten. The fire brigade was supported by the prison fire protection team and the entire affected area had to be evacuated. Emergency crews' quick response prevented potentially more serious damage, while police have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.
