A dramatic operation shook the port of Rostock when a gantry crane burst into flames at 9:27 p.m. on February 26, 2025. The fire department was immediately alerted and quickly determined that a fire had broken out in the engine room, near the driver's cockpit. Apparently a technical defect was responsible for this emergency. Fortunately, the emergency services managed to act quickly so that no one was injured. Fighting fires under difficult conditions
The fire, which was estimated to be 20 meters high, presented the fire department with major challenges. In order to fight the flames, the power supply had to be switched off first. Equipped with heavy respiratory protection, the fire brigade was finally able to start extinguishing the fire while a turntable ladder was made ready for use. Thanks to the coordinated effort, the spread of the fire was quickly stopped, preventing major damage.
