A 76-year-old with dementia disappeared from the Linz hospital – clues wanted!
On Thursday afternoon, a 76-year-old man suffering severely from dementia disappeared from the emergency room at the Kepler University Hospital in Linz. After collapsing while shopping with his wife, he was taken to the clinic, but the staff were not informed of his condition. This could possibly have led to his unnoticed disappearance. Despite intensive searches that have been taking place in the municipality of Leonding and the city of Linz since the early hours of December 22nd, the man has so far remained untraceable. The search teams consist of police, fire departments and rescue organizations, supported by dog teams and drones that systematically search the area.
Features and search
The man you are looking for is 1.78 meters tall, slim, with white, thinning hair and a full white beard. He wears black pants, a brown sweater and a black winter jacket, complemented by a noticeable venous catheter on his left hand. The family and emergency services are asking the public for information. Anyone who sees the man or has information about his whereabouts should contact the police immediately.
Dementia, one of the most common brain diseases, now affects around 130,000 people in Austria. This number is expected to double by 2050. Early interventions can have a positive impact on the course of the disease. Facilities such as the Volkshilfe dementia service centers in Linz, Schwertberg and Steyr offer valuable support by offering advice and inexpensive testing for those affected and their relatives. These offices specialize in recognizing signs of dementia and offering help to improve the quality of life of those affected, as Volkshilfe reports.
It remains to be hoped that the missing man will be found quickly and the search will be successful. Popular support could be crucial.
