Dramatic water rescue in Munich: Surfer are reanimated after emergency!

In the late evening of April 16, 2025, there was a dramatic water rescue operation in the Eisbach wave in Munich. At 11:30 p.m., the fire brigade received an emergency call that informed about the emergency situation of a 34-year-old surfer. This had fallen from the surfboard, which had anchored in the water while she was attached to it with a ribbon. Despite the efforts of those present to free the woman, they failed due to the strong flow of water.

The Munich fire brigade reacted quickly and sent its flow rescuers. They made a way to the affected surfer from both sides and finally managed to free her from her surfboard. Immediately afterwards, the rescue workers carried out resuscitation measures. These initially provided positive results, and the woman was transported into a shock room of a Munich clinic. However, their health was classified as very critical.

Psychological care for witnesses

In view of the dramatic events, a crisis intervention team was added to support the witnesses of the incident. This ensured that those affected are psychologically cared for and have the opportunity to talk about what they have experienced. At the same time, the fire brigade carried out a debriefing with the SKB team (sports and crisis management team) in order to evaluate the use and processes.

First aid and emergency training

In connection with the emergency situation, the topic of first aid qualifications comes into play. According to Fireworld Complete first aid course, the content of which must be refreshed every two years. First aid 089 is an authorized institution that conducts these training and further training.

The need for a well -trained company team is undisputed. For example, according to the DGUV regulation 1, §26 the following minimum numbers of first aiders in companies must be available:
