Drama in Hengsberg: Fire brigade fights against blazing flames!
On Tuesday afternoon, at 1:15 p.m., the fire department was called to an alarming operation in Hengsberg. A specialty chemical plant was on fire! When the emergency services arrived, a frightening picture emerged: flames were already coming out of the windows of a commercial building and the entire area was permeated with thick smoke. Fire chief Simon Tigges described the scene: “A section of the hall was completely on fire.” Fortunately, there were no more people in the building at the time, which made the situation a little easier.
Intensive extinguishing work and security measures
The fire spread over an area of 100 to 150 square meters and even burned into the false ceilings. To fight the flames, firefighters had to cut holes in the roof structure. The extinguishing work proved to be extremely challenging as the hall was heavily smoked and the emergency services could only work with respiratory protection. The cause of the fire and the exact damage are still unclear as the interior of the hall has not yet been fully examined.
To ensure the safety of residents, the emergency services immediately carried out measurements for pollutants. Fortunately, no elevated levels were detected. Nevertheless, the fire department issued a warning: Citizens in Hengsberg and Fehrbach should keep windows and doors closed to protect themselves from the smoke gases. The firefighters received support from the Ludwigshafen professional fire department, who carried out additional measurements. A total of an impressive 22 fire engines and around 70 to 80 emergency services were deployed, including firefighters from the Thaleischweiler-Fröschen municipality.
