In a frightening incident in Vienna-Favoriten on Saturday evening, a 42-year-old woman was threatened with a knife by her stepson, a 23-year-old Serbian citizen. Police were alerted at around 8pm after receiving reports of this attack. When the emergency services arrived, the attacker had barricaded himself in the apartment and threatened to take the woman's life. The situation escalated when the suspect and the injured woman appeared at an open window. At a crucial moment, the woman was able to wrest the knife from the attacker, which then fell onto the street. This allowed police to open the door and arrest the man. The stepmother suffered multiple facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. The suspect was banned from entering and approaching the building and was temporarily banned from using weapons. The police are now investigating the background to the incident, although the motive remains unclear.
Alcoholic argument escalates
The police were called immediately and temporarily arrested the woman, as a ban on entry and approach as well as a temporary ban on weapons were also applied for. Both parties had minor injuries but did not want to call emergency services. When the incident began, it was also discovered that both had an alcohol level of around two per mille. The suspected murder weapon was seized by officers, and the man partially admitted during questioning that he was involved in the dispute. The woman has yet to be fully questioned as she is currently in police custody.
