Drama at the Stade Toulouse: Parachutist gets stuck on the roof of the stadium!

On April 6, 2025, a dramatic event overshadowed the Champions Cup rugby round of 16 match between Toulouse and Sale Sharks. A skydiver who was scheduled to make a spectacular landing during the game ran into trouble and became stuck on the roof of Municipal Stadium. The Air Force soldier was supposed to bring the game ball into the stadium from the air, but he was hit by a strong gust of wind and lost control.

A total of around 33,000 spectators witnessed the unexpected incident. While the parachutist dangled in the air for around 30 minutes, the affected sector was immediately evacuated. Security guards ensured that soft objects, including foam advertising boards and an inflatable mini rugby pitch, were provided as cushioning to provide protection in the event of a fall. The lion mascot of Toulouse was on site as one of the helpers.

Rescue operation by the fire department

The fire department was quickly alerted and reached the scene using a long turntable ladder. Two firefighters climbed up to the hanging parachutist and finally brought him safely back to the ground. The soldier was rescued unhurt and later expressed gratitude to the Stade Toulouse team and firefighters. He stated that the audience supported him with calming words in this tense situation.

The incident resulted in the delay of the game, which started about 40 minutes late. The first two parachutists had previously landed safely, only the third had ended up in this threatening situation. After his descent, the parachutist appeared visibly shaken, but was able to leave the stadium without serious injuries.

Unwanted spectacle for the audience

Although the situation was alarming, the professional response of security personnel and the fire department ensured a quick end to the horror. Spectators below the parachutist had to leave their seats, but no one was hurt. The crowd reportedly helped the skydiver by cheering him on and encouraging him.

The dramatic rescue attracted not only those present in the stadium, but also media attention. During the otherwise joyful atmosphere of a rugby match, this event inadvertently led to a demonstration of security measures and the effective cooperation of civilian and professional responders.
