On December 25, 2024, there was a vehicle fire on the A7 towards Ulm, near Ellwangen. A BMW driven by a family of four caught fire around 9:15 p.m. The family was able to park the car and leave in time before the fire broke out completely. The engine compartment of the vehicle was the source of the fire. Fortunately, all occupants were uninjured, but property damage amounted to around 22,000 euros ZVW reported.
Another incident, also on the A7, occurred late on Saturday evening, December 23rd. Two cars, an Audi and a VW, were involved. The driver of an Audi lost control of his vehicle and collided with another car in which a married couple was sitting. In this tragic accident, a 58-year-old man died at the scene, while his wife was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. A family of four who were trapped in the Audi had to be freed by the fire department. All family members suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to hospitals. The material damage in this incident is estimated at around 80,000 euros FR reported.
Causes of accidents and fires
In connection with the fatal accident, an expert was called in to clarify the exact cause of the accident. Both vehicles involved were seized and towed away. The A7 in the direction of Fulda was completely closed for around four hours due to the accident, which led to significant traffic delays. On Sunday morning, the accident site was briefly closed again to secure evidence.
