Roof fire in Stainz: Fire brigade fights flames for hours!
In the market town of Stainz, more precisely in Pichling, a devastating fire broke out in a single-family home late in the evening of February 16th. According to reports from Fireworld.at, a passer-by alerted the Rossegg volunteer fire department at 8:43 p.m., initially about a chimney fire. But during the journey, the emergency services quickly realized that it was a much bigger problem - the roof structure was already ablaze. In order to get the fire under control, eight fire departments with around 70 men were mobilized, including the Stainz fire department and the Magna company fire department, to work together against the impending disaster.
However, fighting the fire was extremely difficult. The commander of the Rossegg Volunteer Fire Department, HBI Gerd Grinschgl, reported on a lengthy and challenging operation. The flames had spread along the facade, which was clad with a thermal insulation composite system, which made targeted fire fighting necessary. Firefighters had to work under heavy breathing apparatus to contain the fire, and it wasn't until around 2:30 a.m. that the last of the 70 firefighters were able to complete their task and return to the armory. No one was injured because the residents left the building in time and temporarily stayed with neighbors, reported steiermark.ORF.at.
A lot of material damage occurs
The property damage caused by this fire is likely to be considerable, although exact figures are not yet available. The firefighters did a great job to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings. The Red Cross was also on site to ensure the safety of emergency services while police investigated the cause of the fire. The rapid response of the fire department and numerous supporting units prevented anything worse from happening, but the incident remains a stark reminder of the dangers of fires, which can cause extensive damage in such a short space of time.
