A dramatic fire in the Centro Oberhausen caused a stir on Thursday evening. Loud derwesten.de The fire broke out in an empty restaurant, while the adjacent Christmas market, which was very busy at the time, had to be evacuated quickly. Meter-high flames shot out of the building and a large cloud of smoke was visible from afar. The fire department was on site with around 80 firefighters and, for safety reasons, only had to fight the fire from the outside as the building was considered unstable.

The situation was brought under control in a timely manner and on Friday morning, the mall announced that the fire had been completely extinguished. How WDR reported that the population was never endangered by the smoke and there were no injuries. The Christmas market was able to reopen its doors on Friday. “We would like to thank the emergency services for their quick and efficient deployment,” said a spokeswoman for the center. However, the future of the burned-out "Pagoda" building remains uncertain, and many citizens recall with horror previous similar incidents, such as the fire in an Irish pub on New Year's Eve 2012.
