Die Presse” strengthens digital reach: Access to the New York Times!
The Austrian daily newspaper “Die Presse” has introduced a new digital offering that now gives its subscribers access to the renowned US daily newspaper “The New York Times”. This strategic expansion aims to strengthen “Die Presse”’s position in the premium segment and emphasize the global relevance of high-quality journalistic content. The new subscription offer particularly benefits young, media-savvy target groups in Austria who value in-depth reporting and entertainment.
Editor-in-chief Florian Asamer underlines the importance of this initiative, which positions “Die Presse” as the leading quality newspaper in Austria. Readers can now access a wide range of content, including national and international news, as well as specific formats such as News, Games, Cooking, Audio, Wirecutter and The Athletic, all at no additional cost to existing digital “Press” subscribers.

Changes in media usage
The introduction of this offer comes at a time when media usage in Austria is changing significantly. According to current statistics, the population spends an average of over five hours a day on media, with younger users in particular increasingly preferring online media. Those aged 14 to 29 consume an average of almost two hours of online videos a day, with platforms such as YouTube and Netflix dominating.
Despite the increasing relevance of digital content, traditional television remains very popular for many Austrians, especially among older generations. These developments make providing engaging digital content even more important to meet the needs of different target groups.
With the expanded digital offering, “Die Presse” shows how it is reacting to changing media preferences and at the same time promoting journalistic quality. Readers can look forward to an enriched range of information that includes not only local but also international perspectives.
