Trump S NATO press conference: Fact check of the statements

President Donald Trump said false claims about war in Ukraine, inflation in the USA and the fight against the terrorist group ISIS.

false claims about the war in Ukraine

Trump also repeated his unfounded assertion that the US military attacks had "wiped out" these at Iranian nuclear locations at the weekend. According to a report by CNN, an early US secret service assessment found that the core components of the program had not been completely destroyed and that the attacks had only thrown back the Iranian nuclear program by months. It is important to note that the United States continues to collect information about the effects of the attacks and possibly later reviews.

The UkraineKlieg and Trump's statements

When a journalist Trump reminded that he had previously promised to end Russia's war against Ukraine in "24 hours", but later said that this was meant sarcastically, Trump explained: "Of course it was sarcastic." However, this statement is not correct. In April Trump claimed that he had given the promise "in the joke", but CNN found 53 examples in which Trump assured during the election campaign in a completely serious tone that he would end the war within 24 hours of returning to the White House or even faster as a designated president.

inflation in the USA

Trump once again criticized Jerome Powell, the chairman of the Federal Reserve because he had not immediately reduced the interest rates. Trump explained how "we have no inflation." However, this is wrong. The annual inflation rate in the USA was 2.4 % in May, an increase compared to 2.3 % in April. This April rate has been the lowest since the beginning of 2021 and was below the expectations of some economists that had predicted an increase in the significant new tariffs introduced by Trump. However, “no inflation” cannot be mentioned.

The fight against ISIS

Trump repeated his usual statement that "we have defeated ISIS in a few weeks" during his first term. He added: "I was told four to five years, we made it in a few weeks." In reality, however, the so-called ISIS "caliphate" was only declared fully exempt in 2019, not in "a few weeks".
