Elon Musk accuses Ukraine of massive cyberattack on Platform X!
The short messaging platform X, owned by Elon Musk, was hit by massive technical disruptions on Monday, which Musk attributed to a "massive cyberattack." In an interview with Fox Business, the tech billionaire expressed suspicion that this attack came from hackers from Ukraine. For several hours, thousands of users worldwide had problems accessing X, resulting in an international outage of the platform, reported krone.at.
IP addresses that Musk said came from Ukraine were identified for the attack. However, he did not provide any concrete evidence to support these claims, and cybersecurity experts expressed skepticism. These types of attacks, known as denial-of-service attacks, cause websites to become flooded with an overabundance of traffic, causing them to fail. The actual origin of these attacks may be difficult to determine as IP addresses can be easily spoofed watson.ch explained.
Global Disturbances and Responses
On Monday, the platform recorded over 900 disruption reports just in Switzerland, primarily from the cities of Zurich, Basel and Bern. Over 21,000 glitches were reported in the US, and users from countries such as Romania, Thailand and New Zealand also reported similar issues. Two significant failures left X out of action for around 30 minutes each, highlighting the reach and extent of the attack.
