Franjo von Allmen: The new downhill king of the World Ski Championships in Saalbach!
In a thrilling race at the World Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, 23-year-old Swiss Franjo von Allmen finally made his big breakthrough and secured the title of downhill world champion with an outstanding time of 1:40.68 minutes. He prevailed against the strong competition and left the Austrian star Vincent Kriechmayr only 0.24 seconds behind in silver place. The Swiss Alexis Monney secured bronze, finishing 0.31 seconds after the winner The press reported. This is further proof that Switzerland remains the dominant nation in speed competitions.
The Austrian team can still be proud of their achievements. With this silver medal for Kriechmayr, this is already the fourth medal for the ÖSV team at this World Championships, where Stephanie Venier previously won gold and Raphael Haaser won silver in the Super-G and Mirjam Puchner won silver in the downhill. Despite these successes, the other Austrians, such as Daniel Hemetsberger in seventh place and Stefan Babinsky in ninth place, were unable to intervene in the medal fight. Kriechmayr was very positive after the race: “There were a few little things, I didn't do everything, but it was a very good ride,” and emphasized that he had come back well after his knee injury in Wengen 5min.
