Black convinces in the World Cup: ÖSV team shows strong comeback!

A thrilling start to the Alpine Skiing World Cup took place over the weekend on October 26, 2025. The ÖSV team showed strong performances. Julia Scheib triumphed on Saturday, while Marco Schwarz was able to secure a place on the podium. Stefan Brennsteiner rounded off the Austrian team's good record, followed by Raphael Haaser, who took sixth place. Schwarz expressed optimism about the team, although recent years have been marked by weaker results. Brennsteiner, who had often struggled with DNF (Did Not Finish) lately, broke his streak and was only twelve hundredths behind the podium.

Marco Odermatt prevailed in the race and, with his 46th World Cup victory, secured the historic fifth place in the all-time best list, level with Marc Girardelli. In contrast to the previous year, he managed to start the season without any failures. Odermatt emphasized: “It is easier to start the season with 100 points than with 200 behind.”

Performance overview of German ski racers

Among the participants was the team from Germany, which also showed remarkable performances in the second round. Anton Grammel was the best German driver and achieved 11th place after successfully defending his position from the first section. Fabian Gratz improved to 17th place and Jonas Stockinger reached 19th place. Alexander Schmid, who returned from a cruciate ligament injury, took 27th place, while Linus Strasser was eliminated in the first round. Hannes Amman celebrated his World Cup debut with a 49th place. Lucas Pinheiro Braathen wasn't so lucky as he was forced out of the first round due to an accident involving wild animals.

The current competition situation is also being monitored across borders, especially in countries where skiing plays a major role. Estimates show that ski holidays in Europe can be made more attractive and cheaper than in western resorts, especially in the Alps. Access to family-friendly options and cheaper ski course fees make these destinations particularly attractive to vacationers.

Family-friendly ski resorts in Europe

A ski holiday in the Alps not only offers the opportunity to explore the slopes, but also to immerse yourself in the history of skiing and experience new cultures. Five resorts selected by SKI editors offer everything families need for an unforgettable experience:

  • La Rosière, Frankreich
    – Anreise: Flug nach Genf International Airport und Shuttle nach La Rosière buchen.
    – Ideal für Familien mit Kindern jeden Alters, sanfte Anfängerpisten und gut präparierte Strecken mit beeindruckenden Ausblicken.

Overall, the weekend was a successful event that thrilled both the athletes and the spectators. The anticipation for the next competitions in the USA, especially in Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek, is growing and the ÖSV team shows that it is ready to take on new challenges.
