Zelensky calls for NATO protection: withdrawal only with guarantees!
In an explosive development in the Ukraine conflict, former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is calling for Ukraine to temporarily hand over territory to Russia to end the war. He emphasizes: “We need a ceasefire line,” and holds out the prospect that Ukraine could temporarily give up its control over certain areas in exchange for military and security guarantees. Stoltenberg made these statements during an interview with the portal Today.at.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also commented on a possible ceasefire, stressing that NATO protection is essential for the regions controlled by Kiev. In an interview with ZDF Zelensky explained that without these guarantees no peace is possible, adding: "If we want to end the hot phase of the war, we should protect the territory that we have control over." This shows a strategic shift in the Ukrainian position, as Zelensky signals that he will consider a diplomatic solution to regain occupied territories.
Ceasefire with conditions
Stoltenberg and Zelenskyj agree that the military situation makes immediate peace without territorial reconciliation difficult. While Stoltenberg sees it as unrealistic for Ukraine to regain all of the territories under Russian control in the near future, Zelensky emphasizes the need to lay a foundation for future talks on regaining these territories. The pressure is increasing on everyone involved to find short-term solutions that could break the bloody conflict.
