Ecumenical workshop: Young Christians start dialogue in Admont!
From May 28th to June 1st, 2025, an important “Pro Oriente” youth workshop will take place in the Admont Benedictine Monastery, in which around 20 young people from various Christian denominations will take part. This workshop aims to gather committed participants interested in ecumenical dialogue and multicultural exchange. Viola Raheb, program director of “Pro Oriente”, emphasizes that this event is the second of its kind and fulfills the desire of young people to also include members of the Catholic Church and Reformation traditions. The aim is to promote mutual understanding and joint projects, while the young participants should also develop their leadership skills in order to actively contribute to church reform and social change, as [kathpress] reports.
At the same time, top-class scientific lectures under the motto "Culture and Memoria. The Styrian Admont Abbey and European Benedictine Christianity" will take place from May 18th to 20th, 2025, also in Admont Abbey. The speakers include internationally renowned scholars from various countries who will discuss the cultural contributions of the Benedictines to European development. Former Federal Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel will give the opening lecture. This conference is organized in preparation for the anniversary year 2024, in which Admont Abbey celebrates its 950th anniversary. Prof. Andreas Sohn, who is organizing the conference, would like to shed light on how the monks influenced Europe culturally and scientifically and what important role the monastery libraries have played since the Middle Ages, according to [katholisch.at].
