A new star in the Formula 1 sky! The 22-year-old New Zealander Liam Lawson will compete as Max Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull Racing from the 2025 season. The move comes after the surprising departure of Sergio Perez, who had to pack his bags after four years with the team. A real bang!
Lawson, who recently made his debut at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, has quickly made a name for himself. As a short-term replacement for the injured Daniel Ricciardo and later as a permanent driver in the last six races of the season, he impressively proved that he has what it takes to compete in the premier class of motorsport.
A lifelong dream comes true
"Being announced as an Oracle Red Bull Racing driver is a lifelong dream for me. It's something I've wanted since I was eight years old," Lawson said in an official statement. You can see the anticipation in him! He thanked the entire VCARB (RB) team for the support he received in the last few races and which prepared him perfectly for this next step.
"I'm super excited to be working with Max and learning from a world champion. I have no doubt I will benefit from his expertise. I can't wait to get started!" continued Lawson.

Team boss Christian Horner is convinced of Lawson: “His performances have shown that he is a real racing driver who is not afraid to compete with the best and win.” Lawson follows in the footsteps of legends such as Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen himself, all of whom emerged from the Red Bull Junior program.
"There's no denying that racing alongside Max, a four-time champion and undoubtedly one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history, is a huge challenge. But I'm sure Liam is up to the challenge and will give us outstanding results next year," Horner added.
