JJ is storming the charts: Goosebumps before the ESC final on Saturday!

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, the Austrian singer JJ will perform at Eurovision Song Contest on. His eagerly awaited song “Wasted Love” has already reached the excellent third place in the domestic iTunes charts and is delighting not only in Austria, but throughout Europe.

After a strong performance in the semi-finals, which took place on May 15th, JJ confidently qualified for the final. Viewer comments include: “Goosebumps,” “Much better than Sweden,” and “The winner!” The song is celebrated as the best-placed ESC entry in Austria, surpassed only by “Time Will Heal” by Volbeat and “End Of The World” by Miley Cyrus.

The song's protagonist describes how he feels overwhelmed by an "ocean of love" and the person he loves becomes increasingly distant. These haunting lyrics are just one of the elements that make the song so unique. The track was written by JJ, Teodora Špirić and Thomas Turner, with the latter also responsible for production.

Austria's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 was announced on September 7, 2024 by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). The official announcement that “Wasted Love” had been selected as the entry for the competition was made on January 30, 2025, after a panel of 30 music experts and OGAE fan club representatives made the selection.

History and prospects

The event will take place at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. As part of the competition, Austria was able to qualify in the second semi-final, which significantly increases the chances of a successful placement in the final, in which JJ appears with starting number 9. Historically, Austria has a mixed record in previous participation, with a total of eight bottom-place finishes in the competition's history, adding to the anticipation ahead of this appearance.
