Commemorating the victory: ARTE celebrates the liberation from National Socialism!
ARTE recently announced an impressive program to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. From April 6th to May 8th, 2025, a variety of feature films, documentaries and concerts will be broadcast on the channel. These include the award-winning court drama “The Judgment at Nuremberg,” which deals with the aftermath of the war, as well as the more historically in-depth work “Dunkirk, June 2, 1940,” starring the charismatic Jean-Paul Belmondo. According to reporting by ots.at, particular attention will be paid to the important political negotiations between Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin, which are covered in the documentary “Churchill, Roosevelt & Stalin: The Road to Yalta”.
An evening of memories
The themed evening, taking place on May 6, 2025, begins at 8:15 p.m. with the aforementioned documentary followed by other program items highlighting the perspectives of women during the end of the war and the geopolitics of the legacy of the Second World War. The highlight will be the live broadcast of a memorial concert from Wroclaw on April 25th, conducted by Christoph Eschenbach, where works by Schönberg and Brahms will be performed. Program information can be found on the ARTE website, as rxtv.de reports.
In addition, a documentary entitled “How wars end – and peace is possible” will be broadcast on April 22nd at 10 p.m. This multi-layered program aims to shed light on the complex issue of the end of the war and the various social perspectives, especially in the current, politically tense time. ARTE offers its viewers the opportunity to access the content online, so that everyone has access to this important journey through time in the history of the 20th century, according to ots.at.
