Swiatek and Sabalenka: hunters on the way to French Open triumph!

The second week runs on May 30, 2025 French Open in full swing. On this day, three favorites secured their tickets for the next rounds, without losing a set. Iga Swiatek, the four-time winner of the tournament, showed her class again and beat Jaqueline Cristian from Romania 6:2, 7:5 on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. The second set was particularly hard-fought and lasted 1 hour and 16 minutes. Swiatek recorded 20 winners but also suffered 21 unforced errors.

Temperatures rose to 84 degrees Fahrenheit during the game, creating additional challenges. Swiatek, who extended her winning streak at the French Open to 23 matches, is now aiming for her fourth consecutive triumph. She could make history with this, as no woman in the Open Era has ever managed to win four consecutive titles in Paris.

Strong competition

Another favorite, Aryna Sabalenka, who currently leads the world rankings, also advanced. She defeated Olga Danilovic from Serbia 6:2, 6:3 and praised her opponent as a fighter. Sabalenka has already reached six singles finals this year, which is the most for a woman since Serena Williams in 2013. In the next round she will face Amanda Anisimova, who defeated Clara Tauson of Denmark.

Zheng Qinwen, the Olympic champion, defeated Victoria Mboko of Canada 6-3, 6-4. She is now ready to face the Russian Ljudmila Samsonova. A possible exciting duel between Sabalenka and Zheng could take place in the quarterfinals if both continue to play successfully.

The men in competition

There were also some notable results in the men's field. Lorenzo Musetti, seeded number 8, won against Mariano Navone of Argentina 4:6, 6:4, 6:3, 6:2. However, Holger Rune, the 10th seed, had to admit defeat to Quentin Halys from France. Tommy Paul (USA-12) also fought against Karen Khachanov (Russia-24) and won the duel 6:3, 3:6, 7:6(7), 3:6, 6:3. Frances Tiafoe (USA-15) triumphed over Sebastian Korda (USA-23) 7:6(6), 6:3, 6:4. This is the first time since 1995 that three U.S. men are represented in the fourth round of the French Open.

Ben Shelton won clearly against Matteo Gigante from Italy 6:3, 6:3, 6:4. Interestingly, this year's competitions are scheduled from May 25th to June 7th, getting spectators in the mood for competition on the famous red clay surface at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris.
