Future of mobility: Drivers skeptical about autonomous driving

Hamburg (ots)

As we rapidly evolve into a new era of mobility, there are numerous exciting changes awaiting us in the near future. State-of-the-art driver assistance systems, environmentally friendly drives and innovative mobility concepts are increasingly taking shape. The future of driving seems to be closer than ever before, but how are drivers reacting to the promised innovations? A current survey by HEM, the well-known gas station chain, shows that many are still skeptical.

In the survey, 61 percent of respondents admit they have concerns about the safety and reliability of autonomous vehicles. And that's not all: 59 percent doubt that self-driving cars can react correctly in critical situations. Data protection is also a concern for a third of participants. Although almost one in four (23 percent) are open to the new technology, 57 percent still do not want to completely give up driving independently.

The gas station of the future: More than just refueling

But it's not just cars that are changing, the gas stations themselves are also changing. A survey shows that 54 percent of participants can imagine gas stations offering a variety of services in the future, such as restaurants, parcel drop-off points and co-working spaces. Over a quarter of those surveyed (28 percent) even expect a more extensive range of alternative energy sources in order to meet the increasing requirements of the new mobility concepts.

Digitalization in road traffic: Connected mobility is the trend

Digitalization is also revolutionizing the way we get around. More than half of those surveyed (56 percent) would like more advanced navigation systems that can process traffic data and weather information in real time. Despite the new options, the majority retain their preference for traditional payment methods: 54 percent prefer cash or debit cards to digital options. Although classic private transport is seen as future-oriented by 42 percent of those surveyed, there are also loud voices in favor of expanding local public transport so that the mobility of the future remains both electric and classic.
