Housing shortage in Schönberg and Laboe: Tenants are fighting for survival!
Schönberg/Laboe.A shock for many tenants: The Wankendorf housing association has issued notices of termination for a total of 42 tenancies! Those particularly affected are Hans-Werner Krüger, 65, and Anja Leipholz, 60, who both have to vacate their apartments by 2025. Krüger, who has lived in his two-room apartment for over a decade, is devastated. "I can't read or write. How am I supposed to find a new apartment?" he complains. His world collapses because he is dependent on help and has all his social contacts in Schönberg.
Anja Leipholz is also desperate. Her termination on June 30, 2025 puts her in a hopeless situation. The new apartment on offer is only 28 square meters in size and is in an uninhabitable condition. "I can't downsize any further. How am I going to pay for a renovation? I'm on welfare!" she says. Despite her efforts to get support from the community, the help is not forthcoming. Only the SPD parliamentary group stood up for them, while the other parties watched idly.
Wankendorfer modernized, 42 tenancies still without solution
The Wankendorf housing association justifies the terminations with the stricter climate targets. “We have to demolish or gut some buildings in order to create new, energy-efficient living space,” explains Ulrik Schlenz from the board. The construction of new apartments is set to begin in Schönberg and Laboe, but for many tenants there is still no adequate solution. The Probstei office, which is also affected, hopes to provide support for tenants and is looking for solutions to prevent homelessness.
