Science summit in Düsseldorf: VAA Foundation honors top talents!

An exciting event took place at the VAA annual conference at the beginning of November 2024! On November 8, 2024, Dr. Joscha Hoche, Dr. Stefan Oswald and Dr. Marius Schöttle was honored as the new winner of the VAA Excellence Prize. This annual honor by the VAA Foundation, which supports specialists and managers in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, highlights the outstanding scientific achievements of young talent in the fields of chemistry, pharmacy and process engineering. “We support young scientists who strengthen the connection between research and industry,” emphasized Dr. Thomas Fischer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the VAA Foundation, during the glittering award ceremony.

The award winners and their projects

This year's prize winners, each with prize money of 5,000 euros, have distinguished themselves with remarkable dissertations. Dr. Joscha Hoche from the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg received the prize for his dissertation on the behavior of excitons. Dr. Stefan Oswald from the Technical University of Munich was honored for his outstanding research into the degradation mechanisms of nickel-rich cathodes in lithium-ion batteries. Dr. Marius Schöttle from the University of Bayreuth impressed with his work on functional photonics gradients in colloidal assemblies.

The jury, consisting of experts in academic and industrial research, recognized the important contributions of these researchers to the future of business and society. “The work of our award winners is changing the world for the better,” said Dr. Fischer continues. The VAA Foundation is thus sending a strong signal for the need for collaboration between science and industry in order to successfully overcome the challenges of the future.
