Wachenhausen: Butcher discovers vegan sausage for flexitarians!

In Wachenhausen, Roy Walowsky, an experienced meat processing machine salesman, has taken an exciting turn! After 30 years in business, he noticed that his international customers were increasingly asking for solutions for the production of vegan alternatives. This led to the founding of his start-up “GöVegan”, which now produces vegan bratwurst and currywurst and already supplies the Göttingen student union and numerous supermarkets. Walowsky has big plans and wants to conquer the region with his innovative products!

“Who can do vegan better than a butcher?” asks Walowsky, who is standing at his side together with the butcher's senior manager Karl-Heinz Koithahn. The two have made it their mission to create vegan products that are in no way inferior to traditional meat products in terms of taste and consistency. The meat salad, which is scheduled to hit the market later this month, promises to be almost indistinguishable from its meat counterpart.

“We want to produce regionally with all our might”

After a year and a half of hard work and many setbacks, the duo is ready to present their products. They rely on regional ingredients - instead of soy, they use peas and broad beans to minimize their environmental impact. “We want to produce regionally with all our might,” emphasizes Walowsky. Collaboration with local companies such as KWS from Einbeck and Nordzucker from Braunschweig is already underway.

GöVegan products are already available in several supermarkets in the Göttingen and Northeim districts. Walowsky's vision: In five years, to be a purely vegan company that uses local ingredients and conquers the market. “Grandpa hasn’t made a vegan currywurst yet,” he says optimistically and sees great opportunities in the young industry for anyone who wants to experiment with vegan options in these exciting times.
