Volbeat inspires Vienna: concert hit and new album successes!

On October 1, 2025, the rock band Volbeat gave two sold-out concerts in the Wiener Stadthalle. The frontman Michael Poulsen was in top form and delighted the numerous fans with a mixture of hits and personal interactions. The British grunge and alternative rock band Bush appeared as the opening act, but received little attention. Frontman Gavin Rossdale failed to captivate Volbeat fans, although Bush played both new songs and classics. The aggressive band Witch Fever opened the concert and brought a breath of fresh air into the event, but the Volbeat fans quickly refocused on their own favorite melodies.

Volbeat is currently one of the headliners of the Nova Rock Festival 2024 in Nickelsdorf and has played regularly at the Wiener Stadthalle since 2011. After a long, quiet period, the band now seems to have found fun making music again. Their new album “God Of Angels Trust” reached number 1 in the charts in Austria and Germany. The work combines harder and softer musical styles, but remains true to the characteristic Metallica style. Poulsen also found inspiration in the sounds of Johnny Cash and other artists. He broke the traditional song structure and composed various songs spontaneously, including the first track “In The Barn Of The Goat Giving Birth to Satan’s Spawn In A Dying World Of Doom”.

A new chapter for Volbeat

After several years of struggling with voice problems and a third operation on his vocal cords, Michael Poulsen discovered that he is in a better position than ever before. The writing process for the new Volbeat album was refreshing and creative for him, while the pandemic gave him additional time to reflect on his music and memories. Flemming C. Lund, Volbeat's new lead guitarist, replaced Rob Caggiano in 2023, and Poulsen plans to evaluate the situation at the end of the year after Lund gives his one-year commitment.

Volbeat, founded in October 2001 by Michael Poulsen after his departure from the death metal band Dominus, has since developed into one of the most influential bands in the rock and metal genre. With their debut album “The Strength / The Sound / The Songs” in 2005 and numerous other successes, including the multi-award-winning album “Servant of the Mind” from 2021, the band has had an impressive career. Their ability to blend different musical styles ensures that Volbeat can still offer a unique and sought-after live experience. The next concert in Austria is planned for June 2026 at Nova Rock.

Krone.at reports that Volbeat remains popular with fans, and the success of “God Of Angels Trust” proves this. In recent years the band has been able to build up a strong fan base, which they continue to delight at live performances like in Vienna. The audience interactions and the energy that flows from the stage are hallmarks of Volbeat's live performances.

In summary, it can be said that Volbeat are heading towards a new creative peak with their new album and accompanying live performances. Michael Poulsen, who also founded the death metal band Asinhell, continues to improve and shows that the band is far from reaching the end of their journey.
