Trump's triumph: What does the victory mean for Germany?

Munich (ots)

On November 6th, 2024, the political earthquake broke out in Germany! The news of Donald Trump's impending victory in the US presidential election shocked the nation, while its own government sank into deep crisis. A perfect storm! Two crises that are shaking trust in politics and leaving Germans with a feeling of insecurity. And while citizens in Germany struggle in confusion for answers, Trump is already setting his priorities by announcing that he will withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Economy and electoral decisions in focus

The voting decisions in the USA were strongly influenced by pressing issues such as the economy and rising prices - questions that are also increasingly affecting the citizens of Germany. Reporters report directly from Duisburg and Pittsburgh on the concerns of the working population. Jörg Schönenborn will support these impressions with current figures. A central issue remains the automotive industry, which has to assert itself in tough competition against Chinese competitors, especially in the debate about the future of e-mobility.

The “ARD extra” sheds light on the connections between these two historical events that took place on the same day - and which are more deeply intertwined than one might assume. In an exciting 45-minute analysis, viewers not only learn more about the current situation, but also what these developments could mean for the future. Moderated by Ellen Ehni and presented by the well-known ARD journalists Markus Preiß and Jörg Schönenborn, the program promises exciting insights and expert discussions, including a conversation with the US journalist Anne Applebaum. In addition to live subtitling, the program is also offered in German Sign Language (DGS), available as a live stream and via HbbTV.
