Tragedy in Bolzano: Two premature babies die from bacteria infection!
Bozen, Italien - On August 14, 2025, a tragic situation occurred in the Bozen State Hospital, South Tyrol. Two "extreme premature babies", which were around three weeks old and 700 grams each, died as a result of a Bacteria infection . The babies were suffering from the bacterium Serratia Marcescens, which is widespread in the environment and is usually harmless for healthy people. In the case of very small premature babies, however, the infection can become potentially life -threatening.
The public prosecutor has immediately investigated to check the compliance with medical protocols and possible hygienic defects after the infection has been determined. The corpses of the late premature babies should be frozen and kept for a possible autopsy. In view of the incidents, all prevention measures were applied in the Bolzano hospital.
