Manuel Mohnl's cruciate ligament tear: DFB team in crisis before the European Championship!
The anticipation of the 2024 European Championship is suddenly clouded by a shocking injury. Manuel Mohnl, the talented 19-year-old right-back from SC Hainfeld, tore a cruciate ligament in the friendly against Kirchberg. “Bitter for Manuel, but of course also for us,” complains coach Luif. Teammate Marcel Ladan is also struggling with muscular problems, which complicates the situation in the squad. According to Luif, however, the squad is “very well staffed” to compensate for such setbacks, such as the online platform NOEN reports.
Meanwhile, the DFB team and national coach Julian Nagelsmann are preparing intensively for the challenges ahead. The players gathered in Blankenhain, Thuringia for a training camp, where preparations for the home tournament on June 14th are in full swing. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is missing due to an infection. In addition, Nagelsmann cannot welcome all the players immediately: captain Ilkay Gündogan and Marc-Andre ter Stegen have not yet joined due to their commitments with FC Barcelona. Nagelsmann nominated the U21 national players Brajan Gruda and Rocco Reitz at short notice in order to optimize the training processes Eurosport reports.
Optimal conditions for the DFB team
The team expects the best conditions at the Spa & Golf Resort Weimarer Land. “The resort with its in-house training facilities impressed us with its optimal space conditions and regeneration options,” praises Nagelsmann. In the midst of these preparations, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will also pay the team a visit to get an idea of the preparations. With sensitive words, Nagelsmann looks at both the current challenges and the hoped-for successes: “I hope that we can inspire the country with our games.”
