Violent riots after Jena victory: 79 injured in regional league riots!

After an explosive regional league duel between FC Carl Zeiss Jena and BSG Chemie Leipzig on Saturday evening, the waves are running high! In the midst of 7,224 spectators, including 1,084 passionate chemistry fans, violent riots broke out, leaving 79 people injured. The police reported that the injured included 10 emergency services, 5 stewards and 64 fans from both camps. Jena triumphed with an impressive 5-0, but the victory was overshadowed by chaos.

The encounter was classified as a risky game as the ultra groups of the two clubs have been in a bitter conflict for years. Even before kick-off, around 350 Jena fans marched through the city unannounced and set off pyrotechnics. The police had to intervene with physical force, batons and gas to bring the situation under control. Tensions erupted after the final whistle when Leipzig fans threw fireworks into the crowd of Jena supporters, leading to a violent clash.

Violent clashes and massive damage

The Jena State Police Inspectorate reported uncontrolled chaos when both fan camps tried to force open two buffer gates behind the south stand. The police intervened with gas and batons to calm the situation. Bystanders were also reportedly injured by pepper spray. The riots not only left people injured, but also caused massive damage to property. A total of 40 criminal and administrative offenses were reported. The clubs themselves have not yet commented on the incidents, while anger and horror among fans continues to simmer.
