Gera Christmas Market: Laser show only at the opening – a bitter farewell!

The Christmas market in Gera, known as the “Fairy Tale Market”, is a true feast for the senses! With exciting attractions such as puppet theaters and magic shows, it captivates young and old alike. But this year there is an unexpected twist that clouds the anticipation!

The popular laser show, which has been an absolute highlight in recent years, will not take place on every Advent Sunday as usual. Instead, it will only be visible at the opening on November 28th at 5 p.m. Mayor Kurt Dannenberg explains that this decision was not made lightly as the laser show is a valued tradition. However, the economic conditions have thrown a spanner in the works.

Laser show: An expensive pleasure

The cost of a laser show is around 4,000 euros per performance. If it were held every Sunday in Advent, the expenses would rise to a whopping 16,000 euros! In addition, there are increased Gema fees and other operating costs, which put an enormous strain on the city's budget. Dannenberg emphasizes that the decision was based on a careful analysis of the financial situation.

But don't worry! The laser show hasn't completely disappeared! On November 28th it will shine for the first and only time this year. And that's not all: from November 28th to December 23rd, visitors can expect further exciting program items every day from 11 a.m., including Santa Claus consultation hours and the carillon from the town hall tower. The fairy tale market remains a place full of magic and festive atmosphere!
