Theater icon Nele Hertling receives the German Theater Prize of the Faust!
Berlin, Deutschland - The legendary Nele Hertling, an icon of the German theater landscape, was awarded the renowned German Theater Prize "Der Faust" for her life's work! The 90-year-old Berlin artist, who is considered one of the most formative personalities in the theater, revolutionized the stage with her creativity and commitment.
Hertling, who had to flee to northern Germany in her eventful childhood during the Nazi era with her Jewish mother, remembered the healing power of the theater. "When playing theater, I was able to forget the stressful thoughts for a moment," she said touchingly. Their impressive career includes the foundation of the international festival "Pantomime Music Tanz Theater" and the large dance festival "Dance in August". From 1989 to 2003 she headed the Berlin Hebbel Theater and has been the director of the section at the Academy of Arts since 2017.

But Hertling is not the only winner of the evening! The perspective price for future-oriented projects went to the theater youth club of the Thuringian Theater Nordhausen/Loh-Orchester Sondershausen. Outstanding talents were honored in a total of twelve other categories: Zarina Stahnke (actress dance), Anna Drexler (actress drama), Asmik Grigorian (actress music theater) and many more. The winners are selected by two juries in a demanding procedure that has made the "Faust" one of the most sought -after awards in the German theater since 2006.
This brilliant event, which was sent on November 17, 2024 in the Germany radio program, celebrates the diversity and creativity of the performing arts in Germany and highlights the important contributions of artists such as Nele Hertling.
