Fire devil in Altenburg: market café and fish snack bar in flames!
Altenburg had to deal with an unfortunate incident on Friday night. At around 2.50am, a parasol and two chairs were set on fire outside a cafe in the heart of the city. The incident occurred in the market, which is a busy area, especially during nighttime activities. The police and fire brigade were quickly alerted and were able to intervene before major damage was caused to other properties.
Immediately afterwards, around 3 a.m., the rescue control center received a report of another fire in the swimming pool. This time the unknown suspects set two parasols, some chairs and a table in front of a fish snack bar on fire. The rapid response of the emergency services prevented anything worse from happening and the flames were quickly extinguished.
Investigations are ongoing
The Altenburg police have started an investigation and are asking the public for help. Witnesses are asked to come forward and provide information on 03447-4710. It is unclear what the reasons for the targeted arson were. This type of vandalism disturbs residents and raises questions about safety in the city.
In addition to the fires, the police reported another incident in which an e-scooter driver was checked on Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße on Thursday around 7:30 p.m. The 46-year-old turned out to be a problem case: not only was he traveling without valid insurance, but he was also carrying a small amount of narcotics with him. A rapid drug test resulted in a positive result, which led to a blood sample and corresponding investigations.
These events shed light on the challenges facing Altenburg. The police are determined to take action against vandalism and traffic violations. Whether there is a connection between the incidents or whether they need to be viewed in isolation remains to be seen. Residents hope for the quickest possible solutions and, above all, that the perpetrators are brought to justice. The LVZ also reports on these events.
