Surf DM in Hallbergmoos: A sports highlight for the community!

An important sporting event will take place in Hallbergmoos from October 11th to 13th, 2024: the German Surfing Championships. A highlight that will bring the community into the spotlight. The new surf park, known as o2 Surftown MUC, is not only the first of its kind in Germany, but also the largest surf park in Europe. At the opening, the surfer Leon Glatzer impressed, jumping over the waves with his surfboard, increasing anticipation for the upcoming event.

The Freisinger Tagblatt spoke to Markus Streitberger, Hallbergmoos' sports representative, to find out more about the importance of the championship for the community. He was proud that such a major event is taking place here and is convinced that it will have a positive impact on the local economy. “It will raise the profile of the community and ensure that we appear in a positive light,” Streitberger said.

Production of a TV report

Another interesting aspect of the event is the media coverage. In particular, the Pro7 show “TV total” moderated by Sebastian Pufpaff has shown interest in the Surftown and is planning to film a report about it. However, Markus Streitberger regrets that he was not informed about this beforehand, but sees the medialization as an excellent opportunity to put the community of Hallbergmoos in the right light.

The expectations for visitors are high. Streitberger hopes the event will shine a light and attract many people who want to experience surfing. This could be beneficial not only to the regional economy but also to the community by fostering a sense of togetherness and regional pride.

Preparations and infrastructure

A common concern at large events is the availability of parking spaces. However, Streitberger makes it clear that Hallbergmoos is well prepared. “We can use the parking spaces on Messerschmittstrasse and also make the Volksfestplatz available,” he explains. This should make it easy for visitors to arrive.

When asked whether he will be present during the championship, Streitberger was positive, albeit with restrictions. He plans to attend the final round on Sunday but also has family commitments to attend. “The weekend is quite busy for us because all the children also have numerous sporting events,” said the sports officer.

The anticipation in the community is palpable, and Markus Streitberger is committed to making the event a complete success. It is still unclear whether he will present medals or trophies, but he expects Mayor Josef Niedermair to take on the role.

The German Surfing Championship not only promises exciting competitions, but is also a big step towards increasing the popularity of Hallbergmoos as a sports location. Given these conditions, it remains to be seen what response the event will have in the region. More details on this topic can be found in a detailed report on www.merkur.de.
