The city of Lüneburg is planning a bold step! In a crucial meeting, the city council decided to buy the former “Lünebuch” building in the heart of the city center. This historic building, which has been vacant for two years, will soon become the center of the city's administration. The upper floors are to be converted into modern offices in order to centralize administration. The city wants to reduce costs and increase efficiency, as the administration is currently spread across 25 different properties, many of which are rented.
The purchase price for the building on the central market square is two million euros. The city expects the total costs for acquisition, planning and renovation to be between four and four and a half million euros. The plans stipulate that attractive areas for restaurants and businesses will be created on the ground floor in order to further enliven the cityscape. Various possible uses are currently being examined in order to fully exploit the potential of this central location.
