SRH University: Education provider supports presence in Heidelberg!

The SRH, a major provider of education and healthcare services in Germany, has announced a comprehensive restructuring of its higher education sector. From October 1, 2024, the company's five on-site universities will merge to form the new SRH University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg. As the third largest private university provider in the country with 18 study locations, the SRH will offer a uniform platform that gives students more flexibility in their educational path.

The decision to merge the universities into one institution aims to utilize the SRH's experience over a period of more than 50 years and at the same time increase international competitiveness. The headquarters of the new university remains in Heidelberg, where the first SRH university was founded in 1969. The locations will continue to exist, with a gradual expansion, starting with Munich, where new offerings will be made available from the summer semester of 2025.

New perspectives and clear goals

The CEO of SRH Holding, Prof. Dr. Christof Hettich, explained that this merger is not only about creating a stronger presence in the education sector, but also about doubling the number of students. "We give people access to high-quality education anywhere and at any time. In addition, the merger offers our prospective students maximum flexibility, digitally and in person," says Hettich.

A significant part of this new structure is the appointment of Dr. Thorsten Bagschik as managing director of SRH University and Prof. Dr. Victoria Büsch as rector. Both were previously responsible for the Berlin location, which is now housed in a state-of-the-art campus in Berlin-Neukölln. This will be ceremoniously opened on November 15, 2024.

The SRH has an innovative teaching and learning concept known as “CORE” (Competence-Oriented Research and Education). This concept promotes learning in projects instead of traditional classroom teaching. The students work in small groups and benefit from individual support, which significantly improves their chances on the job market.

More than 20,000 students from over 140 countries are currently enrolled at the SRH universities. The offer includes bachelor's and master's programs as well as doctorates and training courses in German and English. The quality of the training is underlined by the “Education made in Germany” seal of quality, which particularly benefits international students.

Diverse educational offerings

The SRH University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg complements SRH's existing educational portfolio, which also includes the SRH Fernhochschule - The Mobile University and the EBS University of Economics and Law. At the international level, SRH operates the Haarlem University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands and the Universidad Paraguayo-Alemana (UPA) in Paraguay. This demonstrates SRH's commitment to providing a global education platform.

With almost 17,000 employees and a turnover of around 1.4 billion euros in 2023, the SRH as a foundation aims to actively support people in their educational and health journeys. The company sees itself as a strong partner that brings students into the company and vice versa.

The realignment of the higher education sector is a strategic step to respond to the changing requirements of the education market while at the same time offering future students optimal career opportunities.
