Savings packages are looming: Vorarlberg has to expect cuts!
On May 30, 2025, there will be new developments in the media landscape that affect both the use of traditional and digital media. As vol.at reports, videos from various platforms, such as the video platform of the “Austria Press Agency” (APA), are in high demand. These developments are also reflected in the live tickers and data centers, which offer constantly updated information about sporting events or elections.
Additionally, APA offers a variety of inspirational content and widgets provided by third parties such as Elfsight and Outbrain. This includes, among other things, Instagram posts, Facebook videos and podcasts from “Podigee”. This diversity clearly shows how diverse and interactive media use has become.
Media usage trends
The trend in media usage is strongly influenced by online presence. According to dpa, more and more people are using streaming services for video and audio content. The proliferation of media libraries and apps has revolutionized the way content is consumed. These changes have led to a significant decline in television viewing time, which fell to 176 minutes per day in Germany in 2024, the lowest level in more than 25 years.
Daily radio usage in Germany is currently less than three hours, indicating 1996 levels. These trends show that traditional media is increasingly being replaced by digital offerings. In particular, video-on-demand and media libraries, which are used daily by many users in Germany, have become increasingly important.
Challenges for print media
The printing industry is also struggling with declining print runs. As Statista reports, the use of magazines and daily newspapers is declining sharply. Since 1991, the number of copies sold has more than halved. In contrast, e-books, e-papers and digital audio books are increasing in popularity. The number of Internet users in Germany has increased more than tenfold to almost 67 million since 1997, which indicates a sign of saturation in Internet use.
In summary, it can be said that the media scene in 2025 will be characterized by significant change. While digital media usage continues to rise, traditional media such as television and print publishing are faced with significant challenges. It remains to be seen how these trends will develop in the coming years.
