Siemens is planning massive layoffs: How many jobs will be lost in Linz?
Siemens is facing massive job cuts: around 6,000 jobs are to be lost worldwide, with a significant proportion being affected in Germany. The group, which is faced with a decline in sales in the automation business, is specifically planning to cut 2,850 jobs in Germany, especially in the weakening Digital Industries division. The company announced this after CEO Roland Busch had already announced a reduction in the low to mid four-digit range in the fall the standard reported.
Austria is not spared from the cuts either. According to information from ORF Upper Austria, a higher double-digit number of jobs will be cut here, although exact figures for Linz are not yet known. Siemens Austria, which employs around 3,100 people, is aiming to make the reductions socially acceptable and points to around 100 vacancies in the country. Discussions with the works council are scheduled to begin shortly to clarify the exact impact on the workforce. Siemens emphasizes that redundancies in Germany should be avoided and that the talks in Austria are also aimed in this direction ORF reported.
The plans are part of a strategic realignment that appears necessary to meet the challenges in a changing market. With this step, Siemens is trying to increase efficiency and concentrate on promising areas. However, employees are facing uncertain times as the specific effects of the reductions are due to be announced in the coming weeks.
