Scholz under pressure: SPD falls to third place before the election!
The political landscape in Germany is currently in limbo. Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the SPD is currently facing enormous challenges, as the Social Democratic Party has slipped to third place with just 14 percent of the vote in the current polls, level with the Greens. How oe24.at reported, the SPD is even threatened with falling back to fourth place. The federal elections are coming up on February 23rd and Scholz is forced to deal with increasing pressure from other parties.
CDU leader Friedrich Merz, on the other hand, seems to be on the best track, with an impressive poll of 33 percent. This could put him in a strong position for a possible coalition, even if an absolute majority still seems distant. The AfD is in second place with 19 percent, with its candidate for chancellor Alice Weidel emphasizing that she is relying on her good poll numbers - despite the lack of coalition partners. As the polls show, the Left Party of the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance could have a hard time overcoming the 5 percent hurdle, while the FDP remains below the mandate limit with just 3 percent.
Political ranking of ministers
Another interesting development can be seen in the evaluation of politicians in terms of likeability and performance. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius leads with a score of 2.0 and remains the most popular, reports ZDF.de. Hendrik Wüst follows in second place with a value of 0.9. While ministers like Olaf Scholz remain in negative territory with a value of -0.7 and Christian Lindner with -1.9, Alice Weidel has an even lower value of -2.7. This mood reflects the current challenges and declining support for the governing parties in the run-up to the crucial elections, which will take place in less than ten weeks.
