Shock after tree cut: squirrel baby urgently needs help!
A few days ago, an injured squirrel baby was recorded at the Pfotenhilfe Tierschutzhof in the Salzburg/Upper Austria border region. The little animal, which had fallen from his nest for unknown reasons, was brought by a cat and was in a unfortunate condition: hypothermic and seriously injured with his eyes closed. Johanna Stadler, the managing director of Pfotenhilfe, announced that the squirrel is now raised with a bottle. Every year, the animal rights activists take care of hundreds of young animals who had to grow up without their mothers, including mice, birds and foxes, who finally have to be released into freedom in their hands, since wildlife should not live in human care. However, this moving rearing is only part of the problem that currently occurs too often in spring.tree cut endangers wild animals
With spring, the annual discussion about the dangers of the tree cuts for wild animals also comes. Animal welfare organizations, such as paw aid, urgently warn of the consequences of uncontrolled cutting measures that are not legally regulated in Austria. According to OE24.at , young animals can be endangered if trees and shrubs are circumcised. In Germany, the pruning of trees between March 1 and September 30 is prohibited by law to protect wild animals, such as the squirrel. In Austria, on the other hand, there are no such regulations, which prompted Pfotenhilfe to urgently demand legal measures. "Every year, many mothers lose their boys because they run away in a panicked run and not come back," explains Stadler.
In addition, the paw aid pointed out that not only squirrels suffer from such cutting measures. Many other wild animals, including birds and insects, are also endangered and die by what could exacerbate species death. "Why there is no such law in Austria is incomprehensible," said Stadler. The rearing of the squirrel baby and the multitude of wildlife orphans that find a new home every year at Pfotenhilfe are an alarming sign that more protective measures are necessary to preserve animals in their natural habitat, such as ots.at reported.
