Shock in Kirchberg: Rottweiler bites seven-year-old girl!
A dramatic incident caused a stir on New Year's Day in Kirchberg ob der Donau, Upper Austria. A seven-year-old girl was bitten by a Rottweiler and local authorities responded immediately. The dog, named Ernie, was taken away from his owner and is currently in an animal shelter. According to the girl's father, this attack was unexpected because Ernie was considered unproblematic and the child had often played with him before. The father suspects that the girl's fur-collared jacket that she was wearing may have confused the dog, as it had played with similar stuffed animals in the summer. The girl suffered flesh wounds to her shoulder and lower leg and was flown by rescue helicopter to hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
Family worries and emotional stress
The incident placed an emotional strain on the entire family. "We didn't want Ernie to get away. Even my little one cried when she found out," said the father. The family now hopes that the dog can return to its breeder in Germany. Meanwhile, the daughter is receiving physical therapy and psychotherapy to deal with the incident and plans to return to school next week.
However, New Year's Day brought not only sad news, but also joyful events. The first New Year's babies of 2025 were born in Germany. The newborn Jakob was born at 6:05 a.m. in the Helios Clinic Berlin-Buch, while Juna, the first baby in a Vivantes clinic, saw the light of day at 2:52 a.m. in Berlin-Neukölln. These newborns bring joy and hope to the new year as the injured girl's family grapples with the emotional challenges the incident has brought Cosmo as well as RTL have reported.
