Shock in Floridsdorf: Slovakia brutally suffocates 91-year-old in garden!

A hearing about the murder of a 91-year-old woman in Floridsdorf will take place at the Vienna Regional Court on Thursday. The 52-year-old defendant, a Slovakian with a serious criminal record, is on trial for the attack on the elderly woman in her garden shed. The horrific act occurred on the night of September 4, 2024. According to OE24's report, the charges are particularly serious due to the gruesome circumstances that led to her death.

The investigation revealed that the defendant attacked the woman with combination pliers and punches before blocking her airway by sitting on top of her and covering her mouth and nose. He then pressed a pillow over her face, causing the old lady to suffer painful suffocation. A forensic report confirmed the gruesome details of the incident. Particular attention is also drawn to the fact that the defendant attempted to disturb the peace of the dead because he believed the woman was dead and performed sexual acts on her.

Criminal record and psychiatric report

The defendant has a long list of previous convictions, including the killing of a man in Slovakia. After this crime, the victim's body was disposed of in a well, for which he served a twelve-year prison sentence. In this case, the Vienna public prosecutor's office is now demanding that the defendant be placed in a forensic therapeutic center. A psychiatric report showed that the man was sane at the time of the crime, but had serious mental disorders.

The case raises concerns about how society treats mentally ill offenders. Statistics show that mental illnesses affect more than one in four adults in Germany and often lead to serious social and professional limitations. The DGPPN report points out the need for psychiatric care, especially when there is acute danger to oneself or others.

Similar murder cases in Vienna

In another tragic incident in Vienna in July, two construction workers were found dead in a hotel on Althanstrasse, which draws parallels to the current case. A 33-year-old Czech construction worker is accused of murdering his two colleagues. He said he thought the men wanted to harm him. His psychological state, characterized by renewed delusions, led to a confession about a fight, although here too the circumstances of the death of the 29-year-old, who choked on his own blood, are worrying.

Both cases reveal the brutal reality of violent crime that may be triggered by psychological disorders. It remains to be hoped that such acts can be prevented in the future through adequate psychiatric treatment and monitoring.
