Mölln. The libraries in the Duchy of Lauenburg are more than just a book! Uta Silderhuis, head of the Lauenburg city library, unveiled: "We want to be the third place next to work and at home!" From hammocks to cordless screwdriver - the library of things has everything you don't need every day. With around 35 extraordinary lending objects, the Lauenburg library, which only moved to new rooms a few months ago, attracts.

According to Silderhuis, the number of visitors has "exploded". And that's not all: the library stands out with unique events-from clothing exchange to the repair café, where defective household appliances are repaired together. The Lauenburg library not only promises literature, but also a living community!

The libraries in change

The new generation of libraries wants to get away from the classic rental! "We are away from the classic book rental," says Petra Busse, head of the Möllner library. The Möllner use the digital streaming service "Film-Friend" for Arthouse cinema, while the "Onleihe" app invites you to borrow e-books and audio books. The cozy seating options invite you to linger and offer a place for relaxed exchange.

Another highlight: Nintendo Switch games for the "smartphone" generation! The libraries are specifically addressing the age group from 12 to 16 years. With creative ideas and digital approaches, you focus on a contemporary experience that also inspires the youth. And while the new trends continue the success story of the libraries, the focus is still on traditional reading, fueled by modern phenomena such as #booktok on Tiktok!
