Fruit and winemaker festival in St. Marienthal: Celebrate with insects and enjoyment!
On Sunday, October 20, 2024, the St. Marienthal Monastery celebrates its fruit and wine-growing festival this year. The event takes place on the grounds of the monastery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and this year is all about insects. Visitors have the opportunity to find out about the fascinating world of bees and beetles.
Numerous retailers will offer their products on the market. This includes the monastery winemakers that present a selection of Federweißer and wine. The brass music association Feuerwehrkapelle Melaune e. V. will enrich the festive atmosphere with musical performances. The stands offer a colorful range of fruit and fruit products, honey, liqueurs and craftsmanship such as woodwork, ceramics and jewelry.
family -friendly activities
A highlight for the little visitors are the alpacas from the “Lindengut” active courtyard from Schönau-Berzdorf, which can be petted. There will also be make -up campaigns and creative handicrafts for children. A fruit variety show with over 300 different types of apple and pear will be present as a further attraction. In addition, guests have the opportunity to have their own fruit varieties determined by Saxon pomologists. To do this, at least five mature fruits must be brought with you.
To enable the guests a comfortable journey, a free pendulum bus is used. This runs between Ostritz station from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the market square in Ostritz and the monastery grounds. This is an important initiative, especially for wheelchair users, since the bus stop at the monastery is not operated by local public transport. The road closure of federal road 99 towards Hirschfelde makes this service necessary.
The organization of the fruit and wine festival is carried out by the International Encounter Center St. Marienthal and the Saxon State Foundation Nature and Environment, in cooperation with the Ostritz e. V. The event promises to become a colorful program for the whole family.
