Fruit and wine festival in St. Marienthal: Celebrate with insects and enjoyment!
On Sunday, October 20, 2024, the St. Marienthal Monastery will celebrate this year's fruit and wine festival. The event will take place on the monastery grounds from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and this year is all about insects. Visitors have the opportunity to find out about the fascinating world of bees and beetles.
Numerous traders will offer their products on the market. These include the monastery winemakers, who present a selection of Federweißer and wine. The brass music club Fire Department Melaune e. V. will enrich the festive atmosphere with musical performances. The stalls offer a colorful range of fruit and fruit products, honey, liqueurs and handicrafts such as woodwork, ceramics and jewelry.
Family friendly activities
A highlight for little visitors are the alpacas from the “Lindengut” active farm in Schönau-Berzdorf, which can be petted. There will also be make-up activities and creative crafts for children. A fruit show with over 300 different types of apples and pears will be another attraction. Guests also have the opportunity to have their own types of fruit selected by Saxon pomologists. You must bring at least five ripe fruits of each variety with you.
To enable guests to travel comfortably, a free shuttle bus is used. This runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Ostritz train station, the market square in Ostritz and the monastery grounds. This is an important initiative, especially for wheelchair users, as the bus stop at the monastery is not served by public transport. The road closure of federal highway 99 in the direction of Hirschfelde makes this service necessary.
The fruit and wine festival is organized by the St. Marienthal International Meeting Center Foundation and the Saxon State Foundation for Nature and Environment, in collaboration with the Ostritz Winzergemeinschaft e. V. The event promises to be a colorful program for the whole family.
