Leipzig is upside down! Thousands of Syrians streamed into Leipzig city center in the early afternoon from Eisenbahnstrasse, the heart of the Syrian community. They had only one goal: to properly celebrate the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad! They gave vent to their inner screams with cheers, pyrotechnics and a deafening motorcade. Augustusplatz experienced a sea of people that brought traffic to a standstill and gave the heart of the city a whole new flair.

Even though the Christmas market already caused a lot of hustle and bustle, the demonstrators also clogged the streets with their joyful procession, accompanied by the sounds of honking cars.
A statement for freedom and justice
The procession moved from Eisenbahnstrasse, known for its many Syrian shops and bistros, to the city. Cars loaded with families, children and the green, white and black independence flag lined up in the convoy. “Syria is free!” they cheered as they ran down Dresdner Strasse in search of freedom and hope for the future.
The police, with a large contingent, ensured security and smooth operations, although there were traffic delays. The planned Christmas market and the RB Leipzig Christmas singing took place despite everything, even if the city was almost bursting with the festive mood.
Peaceful joy despite turbulent times
This demonstration was not only an emotional event for the Syrians of Leipzig, but also a logistical challenge for the city. With over 14,000 Syrian residents who have fled the civil war, the longing for peace is omnipresent in Leipzig.
As well as Bild.de reported that the demonstrations were not just limited to Leipzig. Similar celebrations also took place in other German cities, such as Berlin, with 3,500 people raising their voices against Assad. Such scenes reflect how deeply rooted the desire for a free and peaceful Syria is in people's hearts.
